Medical Marijuana Facts,
Alternative Health Care Right

I applied for my Colorado medical marijuana license because I'm trying to take a more natural approach to my lifestyle. My health care in particular. Like millions of people worldwide, I am prone to migraines, cramping and crankiness due to raging cases of PMS. Just ask my long-suffering husband. Additionally, I've been having ongoing back pain due to injuries, bootcamp and other activities.

To be sure, there is a place for prescription medications. And I am by no means recommending anyone stop taking any doctor prescribed medication and spark up.

Not exactly.

Cannabis: natural healthcare right

But I think we could learn a lot from natural cures and simpler living. It was time for me to think about a natural health alternative. And medical marijuana has proven to be a far better migraine relief alternative for me.

As I've been studying the effects of marijuana on everything from alternative pain relief to anxiety disorder and depression, I have come to realize the importance of legalizing medical marijuana and defending the right to grow this completely natural, sustainable health remedy.

Get the facts about the herbal remedy that has been in use for at least 5,000 years. Learn the truth about this health alternative which has been at the center of a propaganda infowar and the epic fail war on drugs.

Dispelling Social Anxiety

Evidence of the healing properties of cannabis for debilitating illness and conditions is well documented. Therefore, it is stunning to me that with all the problems we have in the U.S. with the economy, health care, unemployment, the war on drugs, the war on terrorism, the war on poverty, the war on war, the environment, our failed school system and pretty much everything else that's funked up in this country that medical marijuana isn't more widely embraced and appreciated.

I'll be the first to admit that the typical stoner stereotypes don't help. But it's just that: a stereotype. We all have cultural stereotypes. Some we're proud of. Some we aren't. I don't think you can find a more diverse cross section of humanity than marijuana smokers.

Not to mention peaceful.

Name something else that brings people together in a positive way better than marijuana. Originated in Central Asia, spread around the world and used as medicine in China, India, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, South Africa, South America and Turkestan for centuries. I don't think God did that by accident.

Cannabis sativa is a hardy plant able to grow and adapt in varied climates and geography. The male hemp plant is a versatile fiber, oil and protein source. The medicinal and comforting female plants provide healing.

Think about that: Something that is perfectly balanced in nature, enjoyed around the world and brings people peacefully together is criminalized and controlled by governments. I don't think even Rod Serling could have written a more tragicomic irony as a result of man's folly.

Imagine if people around the world could grow their own organic remedies, make their own textiles, create their own sustainable fuels and use the products for barter and sale. Sounds like a community to me.

The fears of bodily harm from marijuana are completely unfounded as there have never been a documented marijuana death. Ever. On the other hand, leading causes of death in the U.S. in 2006 according to the CDC:

Heart Disease 631,636
Cancer 559,888
Diabetes 72,449
Alcohol-related (excl. accidents and homicide) 22,073
Alcoholic Liver Disease 13,050
Marijuana 0

Just what are cannabis opponents trying to save us from?

Why Legalizing Matters

Medical marijuana foes argue that the majority of patients are not the terminally ill living in debilitating pain 24/7. I don't disagree. But so what? So what if consenting adults would like to unwind from a long day of working for The Man? God forbid they drop their blood pressure a few bps. What's the leading cause of death?

Despite the People in 17 states and Washington D.C. (as of this writing) voted for various degrees of legalization, there are continued raids and harassment of marijuana growers and dispensaries by the federal police. The Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution:

Why all the fear over a plant?

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

In other words: It was specifically designed to allow the People of the state determine what's best for them and not a bunch of out of touch, knuckleheads in Washington D.C.

If our elected officials really wanted to improve health care, fix the economy, put people back to work, find a sustainable alternative fuel source, reduce crime, improve the environment and (gasp!) put a few dollars back in the pockets of working folk like you and me, they would fully legalize cannabis, allow the growing of medical marijuana, and hemp and end all ridiculous prosecution for exercising a personal choice.
